  • Avalon Waterways - Danube River Cruise

October 30th – November 6th, 2008  -Avalon Waterways Danube Cruise

What a delightful and edifying way to travel. If you enjoy more sight-seeing, and a little less cruising, this may be for you. There are exciting river cruise itineraries to Central Europe, China, Egypt, and the Galapogus. It is one of the most enjoyable and hassle-free ways to explore cities, towns, villages, and picturesque landscapes. The typical passenger aggregate is about 140. All of their ships are comparatively new with a more than sufficient cabin size. The food was excellent though with fewer choices than that offered Ocean Cruising ships. We made stops in Prague, Budapest, Bratislava (Slovakia), and Vienna. One thing becomes immediately apparent, these cities have preserved the beauty and charm of the “Old World”. You can get a glimpse of what these cities were 100 years ago and more. Many of the buildings churches, and synoguges have important historical significance, and their beauty is breathtaking. I cannot say enough about the quality of our tour guides that added so much to our understanding of what we were viewing. Avalon offers some great excursions. We attended the Concert Hall in Vienna, which featured the music of the Strauss composers, and included dancing and song.

River cruising is not appropriate for younger children. Entertainment is more subdued. It is a totally different experience from Ocean Cruising but one that you might want to consider. Avalon is offering some enticements for their 2009 sailings. For a period of time Avalon offers: 1 free passenger for 10 paid, and 2 for 20. You can hold space for just $25 per person. Also, there is a $100 savings off p/p on Europe air-inclusive bookings. Single staterooms are 30% off designated single rates also for a limited period.
